Serendib Capital Limited (the “Company”) is committed to upholding and promoting the principles of child rights and welfare as outlined in international standards and UK laws. We recognize the importance of safeguarding children’s well-being and ensuring that child labour is strictly prohibited within our operations and supply chains.
- Compliance with Laws and Standards
The Company will adhere to all applicable international conventions, regulations, and UK laws related to child labour, including but not limited to:
- International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour
- UK Modern Slavery Act 2015
- UK Children and Young Persons Act 1933
- Prohibition of Child Labour
The Company strictly prohibits any form of child labour, as defined by international and UK laws. Child labour refers to work that deprives children of their childhood, interferes with their ability to attend regular schools, and is mentally, physically, socially, or morally harmful.
- Minimum Working Age
The minimum working age for employment with the Company is in accordance with relevant UK laws. We will not employ individuals below the legal working age, as established by applicable regulations.
- Age Verification
The Company will verify the age of all employees and job applicants to ensure compliance with minimum working age requirements. We may request appropriate documentation, such as birth certificates or government-issued identification.
- Monitoring and Oversight
We will implement effective monitoring and oversight mechanisms to prevent child labour within our operations and supply chains. This includes regular audits, assessments, and due diligence to identify and address any child labour risks.
- Supplier and Contractor Responsibility
The Company expects its suppliers, contractors, and business partners to share our commitment to prohibiting child labour. We will communicate our child labour policy to them and collaborate to ensure child labour is not present in our supply chains.
- Reporting Suspected Cases
Employees and stakeholders are encouraged to report any suspected cases of child labour within the Company’s operations or supply chains. Reports can be made through the established grievance mechanisms, and all reports will be treated confidentially.
- Remediation and Corrective Action
In the event that child labour is identified within our operations or supply chains, the Company will take immediate remediation and corrective action, including disengagement from suppliers or contractors involved in such practices.
- Awareness and Training
We will provide training and awareness programs to employees and relevant stakeholders to ensure they understand and adhere to this child labour policy.
- Communication and Transparency
The Company will communicate its commitment to prohibiting child labour to all employees, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders. We will also disclose relevant information on our efforts to address child labour issues in our annual reports or public disclosures, as appropriate.
- Continuous Improvement
Serendib Capital is dedicated to the continuous improvement of its child labour prevention efforts. We will regularly review and update our policies and procedures to align with international and UK laws and conventions.
