Oborevwori Says Protection Of The Environment Should Be Everyone’s Concern

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to be involved in the protection of the environment.

The governor made the call on Tuesday at the Inauguration of Serendip Capital Headquarters in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to him, his administration would partner with corporate organizations and individuals who are committed to protecting the environment.

Oborevwori who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, said, “protecting the environment is our major concern here in the Niger Delta.

“We should be part of this novel initiative to make the environment better and more productive for us all.

“The inauguration of the Serendip Capital Regional Headquarters, Effurun is a development-oriented step towards sustainable maintenance of the ecosystem to encourage agricultural practices, protect the environment and raise the living standard of our people.

“The company is here to assist in restoring and protecting vital ecosystems, promote biodiversity, improve soil quality and agricultural productivity, engage and empower local communities through sustainable economic activities.

“The company has also promised to help in restoring and protecting mangrove ecosystems to enhance coastal resilience, increase biodiversity and sequester carbon. It will also initiate and implement community driven mangrove planting and monitoring programmes. From the company’s programmes, their activities will include protecting seagrass meadows to support marine biodiversity. 

“It is worthy to note that the company will be involved in sustainable agricultural practices to improve soil health, increase crop yields and reduce environmental impact.

“They will also be educating and supporting farmers in adopting sustainable techniques and practices.

“With these commitments among others, we look forward to a robust partnership between Serendip Capital and our rural communities in improving their agricultural practices, thereby increasing their productivity and income.”

Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Chief Anthony Ofoni represented by the Vice-chairman, Amb. Andrew Agagbo, said that Uvwie provides conducive environment for business and that they will cooperate with Serendib Capital for its operation to be peaceful.

The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM, Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1, represented by Chief Samuel Eshenake, in his goodwill message, expressed appreciation to Serendib Capital for setting up the company in Uvwie and assured the company of the kingdom’s cooperation towards its peaceful operation.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer, Serendib Capital, Rafat Rizvi, noted that, Serendib mission was to rejuvenate Delta State’s environment and enhance community well-being.

Rizvi said, Serendib project aim to restore and protect vital coastal ecosystem, promote biodiversity and environmental health, improve soil quality and agricultural productivity as well as engage and empower local communities through sustainable practices.

According to him; ” We will be engaging the Communities by hiring 1000 field workers thereby creating job opportunities for those in the community and moving beyond that to high value paying jobs, including scientists, maintenance officers and full engagement of workers across Delta State. I want to assure you that, our mission is to rejuvenate Delta State’s environment and enhance community well-being through sustainable practices and innovative carbon projects”.
